The Complete Medigap Plan Comparison Matrix (2026 Standardized Benefits)
All ten Medigap letters are federally standardized — a Plan G in Texas buys the identical benefit list as a Plan G in Oregon, so the only shopping variable is price and carrier service. This matrix lays every letter against every benefit so you can see at a glance which designs actually cover the gaps that matter.

How to read the matrix
Two columns dominate real-world buying: G (full coverage after the Part B deductible, excess charges included) and N (same coverage with copays and no excess-charge protection, priced 15–30% lower). The percentage columns — K at 50% and L at 75% — trade premium for capped, shared cost. F exists only for pre-2020 eligibles. Everything else is a niche design that removes one specific exposure while leaving the biggest one (the Part B 20%) partially or fully open.
The three-question shortcut
First: do you want zero claim paperwork? G. Second: is a 15–30% saving worth $20 office copays and checking providers for excess charges? N. Third: is your priority the lowest possible premium with a hard ceiling on disaster? K or L. If none of the three describes you, the matrix columns A, B, D and M are the residual designs — usually bought only under guaranteed-issue constraints.
FAQ
Are benefits on each letter identical across carriers?
Yes — standardization is federal law. A Plan G from Humana pays the same as a Plan G from Aetna; only premium, service and rate-increase history differ.
Which plan has an out-of-pocket maximum?
Only K ($7,220) and L ($3,610 in 2025). Every other letter leaves the Part B 20% uncapped where it is not covered.
Does the matrix differ by state?
MA, WI and MN replace parts of this menu with their own standardized products; everywhere else this matrix is exact.
