What Does Plan G Not Cover
Plan G covers nearly everything Original Medicare leaves — but “nearly” has a precise list: the Part B deductible, all dental/vision/hearing, prescriptions, and long-term care are on you.
| Not Covered By Plan G | Where To Get It |
|---|---|
| Part B deductible (2025: $257) | Self-pay annually |
| Prescription drugs | Separate Part D plan |
| Dental, vision, hearing aids | Standalone private plans |
| Long-term/custodial care | Separate LTC insurance |
| Part B excess charges — wait, no | G DOES cover these (unlike N) |
| Foreign travel beyond plan limits | Travel medical policy |
The Part B deductible nuance
The Part B deductible ($257 in 2025) is Plan G’s only medical gap — pay it once per year, then G pays everything Medicare approves at 100%, including excess charges. The full coverage table is in the Plan G file.
The non-medical gaps people miss
Medigap follows Medicare’s definition of covered care: routine dental, vision, hearing, and custodial long-term care were never Medicare benefits, so no Medigap letter covers them — plan for those separately rather than expecting a letter upgrade (see all letters).
